Iron manager Mark Robins is confident that his side can round off October with a victory in what will have been a “really successful, bright month”.
United have won four of the last five and will be looking to make it three home wins on the bounce as they welcome a Barnsley side who have already triumphed in the League Cup and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Glanford Park this season.“The run that we’ve been on has been good,” the boss told The Iron PlayerHD.
“Everything has been really positive – the way we’ve played and the points we’ve amassed.
"The game against Barnsley coming on Saturday is dedicated to Prostate Cancer UK and it comes at the end of a six-game block.
"If we get the three points it will have been a really successful, bright month, aside from the blip at Gillingham, where we still can’t believe we haven’t picked up three points.
“Things have changed around, the way I had expected them to.”
The Iron named a strong development team for the fixture against Gateshead on Monday, with a prominent display from Luke Williams, including two goals, seeing him continue his recovery from an injury suffered on the opening day of the season.
“Luke’s goals were of the highest calibre and were outstanding finishes,” he stated.
“I wanted a strong side out there as there were one or two who haven’t had games and match practise and they’ve got that now.
"Luke has waded in with two identical finishes and Jordan Clarke has scored one from 30 yards out. It was a really good result for us really, with some good performances.
“Darius Henderson has played a 90 minute game and looked as bright as we’ve seen him so far.”
With Barnsley the Iron’s next arrivals at Glanford Park, the United boss spoke about the opposition’s fortunes and what he expects from his players at the weekend.
“They’ve lost five on the bounce and the league at this stage is interesting,” he said.
"It’s a good game for us and it will be a good challenge. They’ve got a young, talented squad at their disposal and there are a lot of good players in there. They’ve got quite a big squad.
“We would like to continue in the same vein and playing the way we’ve been playing. In training, we’ve been working hard in the same high intensity and we are looking forward to that game.”
