A GREAT RESULT AND PERFORMANCE

27 October 2015

United winger Gary McSheffrey says the 3-0 victory over Chesterfield was not only a great result, but a great performance.

The Iron ran out comprehensive winners against the Spireites last weekend and McSheffrey praised the manner in which the game was won.

"It was a great result, a great performance. I think we dominated the first half in terms of chances," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"It was nice to finally break the deadlock, the ten men obviously helped us a bit. But we then just got into a shape where we were difficult to break down and we saw the game out well.

"We stuck to our guns and kept going about the game in the same way and eventually opened them up and ground them down."

McSheffrey stated that it was vital to bounce back straight away, after suffering a late defeat to Gillingham on Tuesday night.

However, despite that loss against the Gills, he felt the performance was a positive one and that it deserved more.

"We played well at Gillingham and if it wasn't for switching off at two set-pieces, we'd be sitting here with five wins on the spin now," he said.

"It was huge to bounce back and I said in the week that hopefully it was just a blip, because we're confident in the way that we're playing.

"It's almost like the shackles are off now and we're playing with a bit of freedom. We're just playing with that off the cuff enjoyment."

The former Chesterfield man scored the pick of the goals in the victory and he said he was thankful to see his strike find the back of the net.

"It was nice, the defender cleared it and I thought 'why not'. Even though it was on my right foot," he stated.

"I just hit it and thankfully it went in. So it's nice for those ones to go in."

The Iron next face Barnsley at Glanford Park on Saturday and it's a game which McSheffrey states he and his team-mates need to be ruthless in.

He said: "We've played them a couple of times in both cups, so we kind of know each other's games.

"On their day they can beat anyone, as anyone can in this league.

"We've got to take this into that game and we've got to put the nail in the coffin and go and beat them."
