WE BATTLED THROUGH

26 November 2015

United’s young defender Charlie Goode was happy to put to bed the two recent losses with his side's 2-1 victory away at Bury on Tuesday night.

Luke Williams was felled early in the first half to provide Paddy Madden with the chance to give the Iron the lead – which he duly obliged to.

Then just after the half-time break, ex-Iron loanee Leon Clarke levelled the scores. Just as the match looked as though it would end in a draw, Williams capped off a wonderful performance with his sweet right-footed free kick from 30-yards out to seal all three points.

“It was a tough game,” Goode told The Iron Player HD.

“It’s one of those games where you battle through it and get your chances.

“I think Luke’s goal was unbelievable, and he’s done really well to win the penalty for the first one as well. We did well to get the two goals, and I thought we looked defensively solid in the second half.”

David Mirfin pulled up with an injury mid-way through the first half, which meant Goode had the chance to come on and impress – something he says was tough.

“I came on 15 minutes before half-time so you just want to get in, keep a clean sheet when you’re in and take it from there," he said.

“Their two strikers are tough. They’re big, they’re strong and they win their headers. I like playing up against those sort of players because it gives me a bit of a challenge.

“Niall (Canavan) talked me through the game well, and I thought we worked well. We could have done a little better for their goal but other than that we looked pretty solid together.”

The win moves the Iron up to 13th iin League One, and Goode said he was glad to get back to winning ways.

He stated: “We went on such a good run, then the two losses were a bit of a blip for us. It’s nice to get straight back to winning again, and this is a tough place to come – they’re up there.

“We’ve been confident, even in the last two games which we lost. We’re confident that on our day we can beat any side in this league.

“The last two games we haven’t been at it, but today it was a different type of performance and we dealt with it well. We can take that in to Saturday and hopefully start getting up the league again.

“It only takes a good run of form like we were on in October. At the start of the month we were down near the bottom and by the end we were up to around eighth or ninth.”
