JOHN JOINS THE 'MARVELOUS' 12TH MAN INITIATIVE

9 May 2015

With season ticket sales in full flow at the Glanford Park ticket office, we caught up with one of our resident supporters John Simpson outside the ground.

Life-long fan John has followed the Iron for well over 50 years, and he spoke about the new season once again in the SkyBet League One, and what he thinks of the new 12th Man scheme which will include a free programme at every home match, and his pick of the seats in the new stadium the following year.

John said: “I am looking forward to the new season, consolidating and maybe getting into the play-offs. I’d love to see us get in to the Championship in the new stadium, that would be fantastic.

“I think the 12th Man initiative is marvelous because I usually tend to not get a programme, partly because of the cost, but I think it’s great because it is another incentive.”

One topic that couldn’t be left off the agenda was the confirmation of the stadium plans being approved for the 2016/17 season. The new ground will be the third John has had a season ticket in during his time watching United, and he shared his delight at the forward-thinking plans of the club and chairman.

“We need to get more supporters here and more support in general, especially when we move in to a 12,000 seated ground, we want to fill it!” John stated.

“I think the other things Mr. Swann is doing is interesting as well at the new stadium. It’s going to be brilliant with all the new things he is proposing to have at the new place.

“I am extremely excited about the move, even more excited than when we moved here from the old stadium. Unfortunately I was living away when we moved from the Old Show Ground; with my support for the club starting all the way back in 1957.

“That was the season we won the Third North Championship, the last ever year of the competition and I have such fantastic memories.”

With John signed on for the 2015/2016 campaign, he is ready to watch the boys produce some attractive football on the pitch, along with the wins that will propel us up the table.

He said: “I’m looking forward to seeing some really good entertaining football. Although I know getting the three points is the important bit, let’s still have some quality football to watch.

“Let’s get some bigger crowds in and build a great atmosphere!”
