"JACK IS ANOTHER SOLID SIGNING"

26 May 2015

Manager Mark Robins was pleased to seal his second signing of the summer in the form of Jack King, from Preston North End.

The versatile player, who can play in defence or midfield, joins the Lilywhites on a two-year deal – with the United boss pleased to acquire the services of another experienced player on his radar.

“He is a player we have looked at for some time,” he told The Iron Player.

“We actually tried to bring Jack in on loan last season, but we weren’t able to due to the run Preston was on and Simon (Grayson) wanted to keep everyone in the building. We now were given the opportunity to bring Jack in and he’s another strong addition.

“He’s a strong, solid character – and one who’s a decent player in whichever position he plays in. He can play at centre half, I’ve seen him play up front, I’ve seen him play at right-back and he also plays in midfield, so he adds versatility to us. We will try and pin down one position for him and we will wait and see through pre-season which one that turns out to be."

He added: “He’s a great addition to have.”

Speaking about his League One experience, Mark was delighted to acquire Jack’s services following 28 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions last season. That couples with United’s first summer signing last week; Stephen Dawson.

He stated: “He’s played a lot of games and we obviously know how that ended up for him and Preston. He’s a good, tough player and we can’t wait to start work with him – along with Stephen Dawson. The two signings that we’ve brought in to this stage are really solid ones.

“I think we need a balance. We need players who can do the job. We want to attack teams, we want to play with a bit of freedom when we possibly can do. It’s going to be exciting for supporters, but also we’ve got to try and stop goals going into the other end."

He added: “Everything stands us in good stead for a decent season next season.

“I keep seeing that the 12th Man tickets are going really well. People are buying into that and are coming to support us. I think people are missing the football, we certainly are. After three weeks off, it gets to the stage when you want to be back in.”
