"IT'S STARTING TO COME TOGETHER"

28 May 2015

United manager Mark Robins was delighted to seal his third summer signing and second in a week, with Scott Wiseman arriving at Glanford Park.

The former Preston North End defender signed a two-year deal with the Iron, joining Jack King who also made the switch from the Lilywhites earlier in the week.

“We’ve known Scott for a long time,” he told The Iron Player.

“He’s a versatile player and can play in a number of different positions which is important, but he can do them really well. When he was at Barnsley, he would play on the right side of a three sometimes, he played at right back and I know he’s played one up in front of a full back as well.

“He’s a good signing with a lot of experience. He’s come from a Preston side who have had a terrific season as we know and he will know one or two of our players already including Jack obviously and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

He added: “He’s a good athlete. He can get up and down, he’s got some good pace and his delivery is always decent. It’s another good signing for us.”

Speaking on the club’s recruitment as a whole, Mark believes his plans are beginning to come together although he stressed there is still a long way to go and many more bodies to recruit ahead of the new season.

“The important thing is, it starts to come together,” he continued.

“There’s still a long way to go in terms of the recruitment, but I’m pleased with the way it’s going at the moment and we are looking to add further signings of good quality.

“Scott has played at a high level as well; he’s played in the Championship and that gives us more options down the right-hand-side, but also in defence; which we have needed to address.

“We’re obviously looking for more additions, but when that takes place remains to be seen. There are players away on holiday, enjoying their breaks, and probably not thinking what their next move is, but for us it’s about recruiting the right player at the right time for the right money.

“We need to bring in the best quality that we possibly can do and we’ve done that so far. It’s an exciting summer and this is the part we need to, and will, get right.

“The Chairman has been fantastic and the backing we’ve received so far has been tremendous and I think he is enjoying himself as well – seeing what good players are coming into the building at this stage.”

He added: “The more 12th Man packages we can sell will really help us.”
