YOUTHS EDGED OUT IN GRIMSBY CLASH

7 March 2015

The Iron's youth team were beaten 2-1 at home by Grimsby Town on Saturday morning.

In blustery conditions, the visitors scored after 10 minutes and doubled their lead in the 27th minute when they counter-attacked the length of the pitch from a United free-kick.

Noel Burdett scored on 34 minutes from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the penalty area.

Sonny Shilling had an opportunity to equalise on 65 minutes following up a Burdett shot, but Shilling saw his effort come back off the post.

United went close on numerous occasions from Taron Hare's long throws.

Late on, Burdett was through on the goalkeeper but saw his effort well saved by the Mariners' shotstopper as the game ended in frustration for the home team.
