UNLUCKY NOT TO CLAIM ALL THREE POINTS

14 March 2015

Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins felt his side were unlucky not to claim all three points in the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

The Iron went ahead after 37 minutes, through Neal Bishop, and the visitors levelled shortly before the interval.

United were much improved in the second half but they could not find a winner, despite a couple of chances for Paddy Madden and substitute Kevin van Veen.

“My reaction to the match is we should have won, simple as that,” Robins told The Iron Player.

“I thought we created better opportunities, better chances, certainly in the second half.

“The first was a bit of a nonentity if I am honest, there wasn’t any great passages of play, although we got our noses in front in the game from a good set piece.

“The second half was better, it opened up for us and the changes we made were positive ones and we looked to go win the game, it wasn’t to be.

“We had three clear-cut chances, as clear-cut we have had in a while, and we did not take one of them and it contributed to us only getting a point.

“It’s a decent point against a good side. When you look at things in isolation, you see it as two points dropped based on the second half.”

The home side were denied a winner when the Blades’ goalkeeper Iain Turner fumbled a cross and the ball ricocheted into the back of the net.

Referee Darren Handley disallowed the goal and Robins said: “The ball went in the back of the net and it was disallowed, that was my view of it.

“You don’t get to see what happens and the fourth official said to us the linesman saw a pull on the goalkeeper’s shirt. If he has got that one right, fantastic, if not it’s a travesty. There’s absolutely no point talking to the referee after the game, we don’t get to speak to him during and there’s no point speaking to him after.”

Robins’ men next fixture is away at Rochdale next week and the manager feels there is plenty of positives to take from the match.

He added: “The second 45 was better and it warranted the three points because of the chances we created. From that point of view, I am disappointed but we take the point and move onto the next game.”
