HEYWOOD NAMED AS BLADES REFEREE

24 March 2015

Mark Heywood will be the referee when the Iron head to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United this coming Saturday.

Born in West Yorkshire, Heywood will referee United for the first time since the 1-1 draw with Dagenham. In that game, Sam Winnall gave Scunthorpe the lead before a last minute equaliser from Jack Sampson.

He was also the main man in the Iron’s 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town in October 2013, where Winnall scored the winner at Highbury Stadium.

The last game he refereed was Barnsley’s 3-1 victory over Oldham in League One, while he has given out 75 yellow cards and 1 red card so far this campaign.

Heywood is a fairly new referee, having officiated his first game in the 2011/2012 season, a 2-1 victory for Aldershot over Bradford City in August 2011.

He will be assisted by Martin Coy and Bob Roberts, whilst Danny Gratton will act as Fourth Official.
