The Iron can announce the departure of Chief Scout and Chief Executive of the SUFC Trust Lee Turnbull, who has joined Sheffield United.
Lee links up with former United manager Nigel Adkins, assuming a Head of Recruitment role with the Blades, rekindling a successful partnership which saw the Iron promoted twice to the Championship after his appointment in 2006 and survival in the second tier of English football in 2009/10.
The striker, born in Stockton-on-Tees, played for the Iron between 1994 and 1997 and was mainly deployed as a midfield in his time with Scunthorpe before assuming a managerial role at the club’s Football in the Community programme in 1999. He kept that role through to his departure to Bramall Lane, despite not being Chief Scout under the reign of Alan Knill.
He officially re-accepted the role at the club towards the end of the 2013/14 season, with Russ Wilcox keen to reacquire his services following the team’s promotion to League One.
The club would like to place on record our thanks for Lee’s tremendous work in his time at the football club; both as Chief Scout and as Chief Executive of the SUFC Trust.
