LAIRD IS NEXT TO JOIN IRON RANKS

11 June 2015

The Iron have completed the signing of left-back Scott Laird from Preston North End on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old joins Scunthorpe on a free transfer following a successful season with the Lilywhites which saw him make 42 appearances in all competitions and ultimately saw Preston return to the Championship via the play-offs.

He scored Preston’s goal against Manchester United in the FA Cup back in February, putting them ahead against the Red Devils shortly after half time before United hit back with three goals to progress in the competition.

Beginning as a trainee at Plymouth, Scott had a loan spell at Torquay before moving to Stevenage where he spent four-and-a-half years, making over 200 appearances and scoring 20 goals. He then signed for North End in May 2012 and has made nearly a century of appearances in his three year stay, netting seven goals.

The full back joins Scott Wiseman and Jack King, who have already made the switch from Deepdale, with Stephen Dawson, Isaac Assenso and Charlie Goode also making the move to Glanford Park, making the former Scotland Under-16 international and England C international United’s sixth summer signing.
