HARD WORK AND HARD GRAFT TO PLAY LIKE WE ARE

31 July 2015

Reflecting on Wednesday’s 4-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, manager Mark Robins praised the confidence in the squad as the new season draws nearer.

He stated every member of his squad “wants to do well for each other” while also wanting to do well for the supporters and the Chairman and was pleased with the side’s graft during the encounter with the Owls.

“It’s hard work and hard graft to play like we are,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“We are just looking at one game of the season against Burton, but there are 46 tough games to play. We’re playing with a confidence and a method at the moment. We’re confident doing it and confident playing it and we have different strings to our bow.

“We’re pleased with the weapons we have at the moment. It’s never about results in pre-season; you don’t win any points. What you do is look to see that we are making good decisions and from my perspective, we are making good decisions.

“We are playing with the confidence that I expect from them. They’re good players, so I expect that from them. Their execution and work rate is exceptional and they’re working hard for the supporters.

“We all want to do well for the supporters, the Chairman and for each other. I think now we are starting to get towards the start of the season, you can see the excitement building.”

The Iron remain unbeaten in pre-season so far, but the results won’t concern the United boss until August 8, when the SkyBet League One campaign gets underway.

“It’s pre-season, so it’s different,” continued.

“I watched Burton Albion play Leicester City on Tuesday night. At this stage of the season, teams are trying to get into some rhythm. We’ve got into a rhythm pretty early and pretty quickly and they’ve responded to pretty much everything that we’ve done.

“I’m pleased with the way things are shaping up, but again it’s what we do come that first game of the season and taking that confidence from pre-season, the games and the work that they’ve done into the start of a real gruelling campaign.”

Speaking about how pre-season is coming together, Mark reflected back over the busy summer – indicating it as the pivotal part of the plans going into the season.

“Recruitment has been a key part of it so far,” he stated.

“Working throughout the summer is paramount. Thanks to the Chairman again – he’s allowed me to get on with my business this summer and both he and Jim (Rodwell; CEO) have helped me incredibly in terms of getting these players into the building.

“It’s a massive team effort, but we’ve achieved nothing yet. We’re preparing for a season. I’m happy with the way things are going and shaping up this season. There’s always going to be ups and downs. But as long as we’re doing the right things, we’ll be there or thereabouts coming into the season.”
