GETTING TO HARTLEPOOL UNITED

21 July 2015

Here is a guide to Hartlepool's Victoria Park home as United prepare for Tuesday night's pre-season friendly there.

Victoria Park...
Originally opened in 1886, Victoria Park has had a makeover in recent years. The Cyril Knowles Stand and the Town End were constructed in the 1990’s. The Rink End Stand houses the away fans where 967 can be seated. Previous visitors advise fans to wrap up warm with the wind coming from the nearby North Sea.

The stand is behind the goal and has a few pillars which support the stand and it may restrict some fans’ views of parts of the pitch. The final stand is the Niramax Stand, which has stood since 1968. It runs across the side of the pitch, but not the full length and it features an open terrace at the front with seating at the rear.

Getting there...
The journey is likely to take around two to two and a half hours each way.

Departing from Glanford Park, take the first exit at the roundabout by Tesco’s onto Doncaster Road, then continue to the next roundabout, taking the first exit again onto the M181, heading towards Humber Bridge/Doncaster/M180.

Continue for around 2.2miles and keep right at the fork and follow signs for Doncaster/M180 and merge onto the M180.

After around 12 miles, at the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the M18 ramp and continue for around six miles until merging onto the M62 towards Goole/Hull/Leeds.

Once on the M62, after 13.4 miles, exit at Junction 32A, changing onto the A1(M) towards Wetherby.

Stay on the A1(M) for 32.9 miles until the A168 exit towards the A19/Thirsk/Teesside.

After just under eight miles, you will join the A19, for 33.9 miles.

After that time, turn right towards Elwick Rd and after around 1.6 miles, you should be onto Elwick Rd itself. Continue for one mile.

Once you reach the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Dunston Rd. After 0.3 miles, you should reach another roundabout. There, take the 2nd exit onto Hart Ln. After a mile, turn right onto Raby Rd. Continue for 400 or so feet and turn left onto Belk St and continue for 0.1 miles before turning right onto Addison Rd. Victoria Park should be on your left.

An alternate route from the A19 is to take the A689 route towards Hartlepool. Stay on this road and follow the Town Centre signs for 2.8 miles, continuing over two roundabouts. Go straight over the next two sets of lights, passing Hartlepool College on your right and take the next left to the stadium. If you miss the turning, continue to go past ASDA on your left and then take the left at the next roundabout. At the next traffic lights, turn left and you should arrive at the ground.

Parking…
There is a fair sized car park at Victoria Park. Otherwise, you will have to find some street parking quite a distance away from the ground, as a residents’ only parking scheme is in operation on matchdays around the ground.
