It may be only ten weeks since their last match, but manager Mark Robins is eager for the next one to arrive.

United travel to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday for their first game of pre-season, with the Scunthorpe boss ready for supporters to see the new signings and new-look team that is forming.

“We’re looking forward to playing in front of our supporters again,” he told The Iron Player HD.

“It feels like a long, long time ago even though the summer has passed pretty quickly so far. We’ve still got four-and-a-half weeks left of what is pre-season and we look forward to every minute of it because it is all important.

“We are moving in a direction, and we want to build the momentum up. You can feel the good feeling around the place and everything that is taking place has been really positive so far.

“We’ve got to maintain that and keep that together and the 12th Man is really important. It’s not just an initiative, it’s something we want to embrace when we start the games and we want supporters to be a part of it.

“The club is going places, so we have to have a real go on the pitch – and that’s what the supporters want to see. They want to see that everyone is fighting for the shirt and the players that we have brought in will certainly do that.”

In terms of recruitment, Mark stated that additions have not been completed and he and his staff will work tirelessly to ensure his team are ready for the start of the season.

“I think we’ve been methodical to get players in that we want and we’ve done that,” he stated.

“Again, I’m not in a rush. We’ve managed to get quite a lot of players in and we’ll always try and push the envelope and bring people in that will improve us. We’ll consider what’s what as we move forward a little bit.

“Things change in football and in the summer months there are players that come available who you’d never think would come available. We are in a position now where can sort of sit back a little bit, wait and not be as proactive as we’ve been. We can take our time a little bit.

“Finances need to be in place and they will be again. If something becomes available that is going to make us any better, we will have a go.”
