COLLINS HANDED WALSALL CLASH

8 January 2015

Lee Collins will be the referee in charge of the Iron’s trip to Walsall on Saturday, as the Iron look to continue their good run of form in the league.

The Surrey based official is in his fourth season of officiating in the Football League and has only been involved in one fixture with Scunthorpe United.

He oversaw last season’s 5-1 win at home to Portsmouth when Dave Syers scored his first career hat trick in just 55 minutes. Referee Collins didn’t produce a single card as Sam Winnall and Paddy Madden also found the net with Russ Wilcox’s side keeping their position in the automatic promotion places.

This season Collins has refereed in 16 matches and given out 54 yellow cards and two red cards. His two red cards have both been given to League One players, Darius Henderson at Leyton Orient and Danny Green at MK Dons.

Collins has been in charge of two games at the Bescot Stadium in his career. He refereed a game in September 2012 when Walsall beat Preston 3-1 and a 1-1 draw between Walsall and Carlisle in October 2011.
Walsall currently sit in 13th place in Sky Bet League One, whilst Mark Robins’ resurgent Scunthorpe have moved to 18th, with three games in hand on this weekend’s opposition.

Lee Collins will be assisted by Michael George and Joe Hull with Robert Merchant acting as fourth official.
