YOUTHFUL DEVELOPMENT SIDE BEATEN AT HARTLEPOOL

8 December 2015

A youthful Iron development side were beaten 4-0 at Hartlepool United on Tuesday.

On three minutes, a strong start from the hosts eventually yielded a shot. Scott Fenwick was denied with a low near post shot after a terrific save by Ben Ledger

Soon after, a great driving run from Levi Sutton saw Noel Burdett dink a beautiful ball for Jack Dyche. He miscontrolled as the ball ran out for a goal kick though.

The hosts took the lead through Jordan Jewson on 10 minutes. A mistake while trying to allow the ball roll out for a goal kick saw a square ball from the right and the easiest of finishes for Jewson.

They then made it two on 19 minutes, and again it was Jewson. Fenwick provided pace down the right and fired in a low cross for the forward to tap home.

Scunthorpe played some impressive football as they tried to find their way back into the game, but the Pools added a third on 41 minutes.

Blackford played a good give and go, before advancing into the area and driving the ball high into the roof of the net.

Fenwick slotted home the fourth in first half stoppage time, as he wriggled free and slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Scunthorpe had the better of the second period, and Burdett came close on 56 minutes with a shot that hit the outside of the net.

Sonny Shilling then tried to dink an effort towards goal, while Burdett slid an effort across the face of goal.

Dyche had an effort disallowed for offside on 64 minutes, as Burdett squared the ball to him to slot home.

Burdett then fired over the crossbar on 65 minutes following good work by Levi Sutton.

Soon after, the attacker was denied by a defender after the goalkeeper was caught in no mans lad. He opened the angle but found a defender in the way.

Leslie Sackey fired one wide, while Dyche had an effort deflected over the crossbar as Scunthorpe finished strongly. The final moments saw Barlett save well from Shilling.

Iron team: Ledger, McMichael, Butroid, Sutton, Assenso, Stockill, Burdett, Dean-Atkinson, Dyche, Sithole (Sackey, 62), Shilling.
