IN MEMORIAM: FRANK MARSHALL

18 August 2015

It is with great sadness that the club has learned of the death of former player Frank Marshall, aged 86.

Beginning his youth career at Sheffield United and Scarborough in the late 1940’s, the wing-half signed professionally for Rotherham United in 1951.

He made over a century of appearances and scored five goals in a six-year stay there.

He subsequently joined Scunthorpe in 1957, making 80 league appearances in his two-year stay with the club.

He would then finish his playing career with a three-year spell at Doncaster Rovers, where he made 35 league appearances.

Frank was without doubt a member of both Scunthorpe’s and Rotherham’s most successful teams.

He would briefly manage Doncaster as caretaker in 1962 before acting as a coach and then assistant manager of Mansfield Town.

Frank then emigrated to Sweden, where he managed IS Halmia from 1974 to 1979 and Landskrona BoIS between 1980 and 1981.

The club would like to pass on our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this time.
