APPLY OURSELVES RIGHT AND WE HAVE A CHANCE

4 August 2015

Gary McSheffrey has been impressed with the way United’s pre-season campaign has gone.

A youthful Iron side defeated Notts County 2-1 on Friday night, as the team fought back from one goal down with Darius Henderson and Jack Dyche scoring in the second half.

On the match, McSheffrey said: “It’s a good result and it’s a win, which first and foremost is what we wanted, and we kept the unbeaten run going.

"They played better in the first half, we weren’t really at the races. Second half we grinded through and got the couple of goals that we deserved in the end and it was a good win.

"We raised our game and upped the tempo (in the second half), worked hard, and was on the front foot. We won the ball back in better areas and held it quite well.”

McSheffrey grabbed an assist as he selflessly play the ball back to Dyche, rather than shooting himself.

He said: “I could have had a shot myself, you’re always temped – but at the end of the day it’s a team game and winning is more important than any individual.”

The Iron winger admits League One looks wide open this year, but the team feel they have a great chance to push for promotion.

He added: “I think the league’s wide open, and I think it’s there for the taking. We feel if we apply ourselves the right way and work for each other that we have a chance.”

When asked whether he felt he had enjoyed a good personal pre-season campaign, he mentioned: “I feel really fit, and I’ve not missed a session through any injuries. I feel sharp and pretty good.”
