A DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT

17 August 2015

Iron midfielder Sean McAllister says it's a great feeling to be back out on the pitch after starting his second consecutive game on Saturday.

McAllister turned in another impressive display as United defeated Crewe Alexandra to pick up their first win of the season and the diminutive midfielder says he's delighted to be back out on the pitch.

"I'm delighted to be back out there and back playing," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"It was a bit of a surprise, but when you get your chance you've got to take it.

"I thought I had a good pre-season. Obviously it's good to get the opportunity to play, so I've just got to do the best for myself and that in turn will benefit the team."

He says that the team were pleased to get their first victory of the new campaign, but admits there are still areas which they can improve upon.

"There's a definite improvement, and when we did play we caused them a lot of problems," he said.

"We would have liked to get a few more goals, but we're happy with the clean sheet.

"We put ourselves under pressure, so that was disappointing, but it's something that we'll look to put right in the future.

"We know we can improve, but we also know that when we get the passing right, we can cause any team in this league problems.”

Striker Paddy Madden opened his league account with two goals either side of half-time against the Railwaymen and McAllister recognises the importance of the Irishman to the team.

"It's always nice to have someone up there like Paddy (Madden) and I know he'll score a lot of goals for us this season," he explained.

Next up for the Iron is a trip to recently relegated Wigan Athletic on Wednesday.

It is a trip which McAllister says the squad are confident of returning from with three points.

"Sometimes sides that have been relegated take a bit of time to get going and hopefully we can jump on that and get a win," he stated.

"We are creating chances, it's just a matter of taking them when they come along."
