Scotter Jets Under 7’s enjoyed watching the Iron from a different aspect on Saturday as Scunthorpe beat Crawley 2-1.The young football team arrived earlier than any other fans on Saturday and were shown around the stadium in areas that the majority had never witnessed before including the changing room, executive areas and even the press room under the stand.
Following this, they enjoyed playing on the facilities in the OSG Bar as well as having a visit from midfielder Sean McAllister and Kyle Wootton in the build-up to kick off.
Taking their seats in the family area, the team were then invited to be flag bearers as the two teams entered the playing surface ahead of kick-off, while they then returned to the Glanford Park pitch at half time as the club re-ignited mini matches during the interval.
A mini 4v4 game took place, with the youngsters enjoying their first taste of action on Glanford Park, many of which aspiring to play football in the future. They also had their team photo taken with Scunny Bunny in the goal just before the start of the second half as a commemorative photo for the day.
Fiona Harris, who booked the event, said: “It was a fantastic day for them and they all really enjoyed it. Thank you for organising it for our team.
“It’s their first year together as a team, so it was great to be able to reward the team for their hard work this season. We’ve been a player short for most of the season, so to be able to reduce the deficits in games has been important and they’ve grown as a team over the course of the season.
“If they stick together, they’ll only get better and could be a really good team when they get older.”
Fiona booked the group booking under media and marketing assistant James Moody, with the club looking to run more and more events like this in the new season.
