The Iron face a difficult trip to Bristol City on Saturday, facing a team that are unbeaten in the league and find themselves third in the table.

The Last Encounter…
This was a Championship fixture back in the 2010/2011 campaign, the very season Scunthorpe were relegated to League One. Bristol City came out on top at Ashton Gate, beating the Iron 2-0 thanks to goals from David Clarkson and Nicky Maynard. The Robins took an early lead when Clarkson’s inswinging cross evaded everyone before beating Josh Lillis off the woodwork. Scunthorpe had gained seven points from three games prior to this fixture but the deficit was doubled when former-Iron Martyn Woolford found Maynard with a corner, with the striker guiding the ball home.

Hat-trick hero Hooper…

Back in April 2010 Scunthorpe produced a fearless performance against Bristol City, defeating the Robins 3-0 at Glanford Park. This was Nigel Adkins’ last full season in charge of the claret and blue and he managed to guide the club to a safe finish, with this result being a key victory in securing survival. Gary Hooper scored all three goals, taking his tally for the season up to 16. His first came in the 19th minute, helping the ball over the line from close range. The striker’s second was the most impressive, turning his marker before firing the ball past Henderson. He was able to complete his hat-trick 20 minutes from time, rounding the Bristol City shotstopper before slotting the ball into an empty net.

Late Equaliser…
Grant McCann’s stoppage time finish earned Scunthorpe a well-earned point against Bristol City back in September 2009. This was the eighth game of the 2009/10 Championship campaign, in which the Iron were able to end The Robins’ 100% home record. Costa Rican striker Alvaro Saborio grabbed his first goal in English football, firing home from close range shortly after the interval. However, McCann capitalised on a loose free-kick to fire home three minutes into stoppage time.
