Scunthorpe face Doncaster at the weekend, a team the Iron have played against over fifty times in the past.

Five Goal Thriller…
This was the last time the two sides have faced each other. This was a League One fixture back in the 2012/13 campaign, the very season the Iron were relegated to the lowest tier of the Football League. The game finished 3-2 to Doncaster at Glanford Park, with goals from Mark Duffy and Karl Hawley for the Iron. Duffy’s spectacular strike made it 1-1 prior to the interval but Ian Hume and Chris Brown gave their side a two goal lead before Hawley scored what turned out to be a late consolation.

Seven Goal Encounter…
Doncaster had Shelton Martis to thank for a late winner in the 4-3 victory over the Iron back in April 2010. The Iron thought they had gained a valuable point after Hooper’s second of the game made it 3-3 with little over five minutes left but Martis nodded the ball past Joe Murphy in the 89th minute to secure all three points for the home side.

FA Cup Victory…
Scunthorpe booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup after holding on to a thrilling 3-2 victory away at Doncaster. Rovers were a conference side at this point but took a shock lead when Francis Tierney finished from close range. Lee Hodges was able to equalise with a crisp strike into the top corner and Martin Carruthers then headed home from Dawson’s cross just before the break. Less than five minutes after the restart the home side drew level but Alex Calvo-Garcia smashed home what proved to be the winner with little over half an hour left.

Score Draw…
This was a game that finished 2-2 at Glanford Park with Grant McCann rescuing a point for the Iron in the dying seconds of the game. The claret and blue were able to draw level after coming back from two goals down against Doncaster, with Cliff Byrne reducing the deficit before McCann equalised with a spot kick. The visitors converted a penalty of their own and former Iron Billy Sharp had doubled their lead in the 61st minute.
