Iron striker Rory Fallon is to undergo knee surgery which will rule him out until beyond the expiry of his contract in January.
The 32-year-old picked up the injury during the 1-1 home draw with Colchester United and scans have revealed a problem with his knee, which requires an operation. He has scored three goals for United this season, notching on his debut at Oldham Athletic.
"He's certainly a miss for us, and it's a real shame," said Iron boss Mark Robins.
"He's come in, helped out and contributed with his performances and goals.
"He has been a part of it but hopefully he will get stability back in his knee and move forward."
