CAN'T WAIT FOR SATURDAY

23 October 2014

New signing Luke Williams is pleased with the way his first training session as a United player went and is looking forward to getting started at the club.

After signing for The Iron on loan from hometown club Middlesbrough earlier today, the 21-year-old said that it was a move that has been on the cards for several days and that he was happy to finally get involved with his new teammates for the first time.
He said: ‘’ I was told that I’d be coming here earlier this week but I had a little niggle in my foot so I made sure to settle that Middlesbrough and it’s now sorted so I’m ready to go.
‘’I had my first day of training today, it was a smaller group cause some of the lads were doing a cool down but it was good to just get amongst it and get involved.
‘’It was a good session though, we had smaller sided games where you get to see what you’re gonna be doing and yeah, I’m just looking forward to the weekend now.’’
Williams has played in a number of positions over his short career, which has included making 23 appearances in Boro’s first team and playing for England up to under-20 level but he admits that he prefers playing one role in particular.
‘’I can play anywhere across the front really but I do like playing just behind the striker.
‘’That’s probably my favourite position because you get more of the ball and it’s also where I’ve been playing this season at Middlesbrough.’’
The forward is pleased with the playing time that he has had in the Championship but hopes that he will be able to get more in the future.

He told The Iron Player: "The opportunities were good, I probably didn’t get as many as I’d like but I managed to get some goals while I was there and maybe I’ll get more in the future."

The youngster has already been away from Middlesbrough once, scoring two goals in seven games in a loan spell with Hartlepool last season and explained why he really enjoyed his time there.

"I really enjoyed my time at Hartlepool, everything went well, the fans were great and Coops (Neale Cooper) has done a lot for me there but all the lads were great as well," he said.

Asked what Iron fans can expect from him as a player, Williams says that he is an attacking player that likes to excite as much as he can.

He said: "I’m an attacking player; I like to create goals as well as score them and I like being exciting going forward.

"There’s a lot of competition here so hopefully I’ll be able to prove why I’m here and show what I can do."

Williams goes straight in to the squad for the game against Notts County at Glanford Park on Saturday and is looking forward to making in front of the United faithful.

He concluded: "I can’t wait to play on Saturday, I’ve come here to play games and that is what is I’m looking forward to the most."
