BANKES WILL REFEREE AT GILLINGHAM

10 October 2014

Peter Bankes is the referee for the Iron’s League One clash against Gillingham on Saturday.

Bankes will be joined by Thomas Ramsey and Alan Young, who will be running the line. Mark Mellor has been picked as the fourth official.

This is Bankes’ first full Football League season as a referee, having officiated just one match last season. He took charge of the Plymouth v Mansfield fixture in February after refereeing various games in the Conference. Bankes produced three yellow cards in the 1-1 draw between the Pilgrims and the Stags.

So far this season he has been restricted to League Two and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy matches, making this his first ever game in England’s third tier. He averages three bookings per match and has dismissed one player this campaign.

Before making the step up to refereeing Bankes was one of the select group of officials who had the pleasure of working in the Premier League as a linesman. He ran the line in the FA Cup Semi-Final tie between Wigan and Millwall, a game that finished 2-0 to the Latics.
