PREVIEW: FOREST GREEN ROVERS (A)

7 November 2014

The Sky Bet League One programme takes a break at the weekend, as it is the first round of this season’s FA Cup.

United were the last side to be pulled from the pot at St George’s Park for the first round draw, and we were dealt a tricky tie at non-League side Forest Green.

The match is to be played on Sunday, kicking off at 2pm.

It hasn’t been selected for full live coverage, but it has been moved to incorporate the BBC’s Final Score FA Cup show with Jason Mohammed.

It was one of the toughest draws in the competition and the Vanarama Conference side will be hoping to pull off a surprise win over Mark Robins’ Iron.

Robins was in charge of Rotherham in 2007 when Rovers pulled off an FA Cup shock by beating the Millers 3-0 at Millmoor.

It was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that at least two of our loan players will be allowed to play in the tie - Shaun Brisley and Bobby Olejnik have been cleared to feature in the competition by parent club Peterborough. Brisley also saw his loan deal extended at Glanford Park until January.

Manager Mark Robins confirmed on Friday lunchtime that Middlesbrough's Luke Williams and Burnley's Luke O'Neill haven't been given permission to play by their parent clubs.

Brisley’s return means he will push Miguel Llera and Andrew Boyce for a place back in the side, after he missed the win at Peterborough due to his ineligibility to play against his parent club.

Olejnik also missed the clash for the same reason and Sam Slocombe made a return in between the sticks, so Robins will have a selection headache in several areas of the pitch.

It will be the Iron’s first visit to The New Lawn, and the first competitive match against Forest Green.

The Gloucestershire outfit are believed to be one of the wealthier clubs in the Vanarama Conference, with the likes of Luke Rodgers, Lee Hughes and former Claret and Blue man Jon Parkin on their books.

32-year-old Parkin will be fondly remembered by fans of United, after he scored six times during a 14-game loan spell at Glanford Park in 2012.

Managed by Adrian Pennock, Green are seventh in the Vanarama Conference, just two points off second place. They are currently unbeaten in their last six league matches and their last outing saw them draw 3-3 with Lincoln City on Saturday.

If you aren’t travelling to The New Lawn in Gloucestershire, keep track of the action by tuning into the Iron’s official social media channels or live updates on the website. Alternatively, you can keep up-to-date by watching the BBC's FA Cup Final Score with Jason Mohammed.
