LEAGUE ONE REVIEW: MATCHDAY 16

3 November 2014

The Iron got their first win under Mark Robins at the weekend, beating Peterborough 2-1 at London Road.

Loan man Luke Williams put the Scunthorpe in front inside 15 minutes on his second appearance for the club, before Posh substitute Conor Washington put them level before the hour.

The Claret and Blue were in front within seven minutes when Isaiah Osbourne’s shot was deflected into the Peterborough goal.  Unfortunately it has been put down as a Ricardo Santos own goal to deny the former Aston Villa man his first goal in a United shirt.

Elsewhere in Sky Bet League One, Bristol City extended their unbeaten run, ending Oldham’s in the process.

Athletic were on an incredible 12-match unbeaten run in the league and the unbeaten league leaders were 1-0 winners at Ashton Gate as Kieran Agard scored the only goal of the game.

Second-placed Preston fell further behind the Reds when they were beaten 3-0 at Rochdale. Preston had previously won eight consecutive matches and Jack O’Connell opened the scoring for Keith Hill’s Dale before Ian Henderson and Matty Done put the home side beyond reach.

Last year’s Iron top scorer Sam Winnall nodded home after 56 minutes to give Barnsley a valuable three points in a South Yorkshire derby at Bramall Lane.

Crewe dropped back to the foot of the division after they drew on the road at Crawley 1-1. Alexandra were in the lead through George Cooper’s strike before Izale McLeod scored his seventh of the season to deny Crewe three points.

Colchester’s four-match unbeaten run was ended when Port Vale were 2-1 winners at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Mark Marshall and Colin Daniel gave the visiting side the lead and Freddie Sears pulled one back for the U’s but that wasn’t enough.

Doncaster came from behind to beat Bradford in a Yorkshire derby at the Coral Windows Stadium. Jon Stead gave the Bantams the lead before the break and Reece Wabara and Curtis Main netted to complete Paul Dickov’s side’s comeback.

Notts County’s terrific unbeaten run was ended when Walsall stole a 2-1 win at Meadow Lane. Gary Jones’ own goal gave the Saddlers the lead before Garry Thompson was on the score sheet yet again for the Magpies. Forward Tom Bradshaw scored from the spot to steal the victory for Dean Smith’s men.

Karl Robinson’s MK Dons extended their unbeaten run to five matches and rose to third after they beat Swindon 2-1. Jonathan Obika’s neat finish gave the Robins an early lead. The opening 15 minutes of the second half saw 18-year-old Dele Alli and Anthony Kay turn it around for the home side.

Tom Hitchcock signed for the Cod Army on loan on Friday and he scored on his debut to give Fleetwood a 1-0 win over Gillingham.

Jim O’Brien equalised late to rescue Coventry a 2-2 draw at Leyton Orient. O’Brien initially gave the Sky Blues the lead and Scott Cuthbert and Jay Simpson turned it around for the O’s. In the 90th minute the ball fell to O’Brien and he thumped a volley home from 20 yards to rescue a point.

Yeovil are now second-bottom after seeing out a goalless draw on the road at Chesterfield.
