TARGETING CHAMPIONSHIP RETURN

23 May 2014

Defender David Mirfin is delighted to re-sign for the Iron and is targeting a return to the Championship.

The former Huddersfield and Watford man, 29, penned a new two-year deal on Friday and cannot wait to pit his wits in League One again in claret and blue.

He said: "I'm delighted to seal my future so early in the summer.

"It means I can go away, enjoy my holiday and come back looking forward to pre-season.

"It's a two-year deal and quite an important one at the stage I'm at in my career.

"I'm happy with it, while Russ Wilcox and the club are happy too.

"Now I just want to get out on the pitch and help the club build on last year.

"It was an easy decision. The chairman and Russ want to take this club somewhere and the club has ambitions of getting back to Championship level.

"It will be a tough league next year. It will be classed a bit of a local league, a northern league, next season but there will be big games and hopefully we can get big crowds back at Glanford Park as well.

"There have been a lot of changes since we were last in League One, and it is good for a club when they have that transition.

"We managed to bounce straight back into League One and hopefully we can carry on the momentum we built this year.

"If we can add a few new faces too, it will be a completely different squad from that (which was relegated) two years ago."
