TALKING TO TARGETS

23 May 2014

Manager Russ Wilcox has said that he is already talking to potential summer targets.

United's world record breaking manager remains hopeful that the players who are out of contract at Glanford Park this summer will resign - should they have been offered a new deal.

However, he is already talking to potential new signings in case any deals with the current squad fall through.

He told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk: "There are other targets that we are now talking to so that should send a statement out to the other lads that are still yet to sign on the dotted line for next season.

"I wouldn't say there are any deals close with new targets but there have been discussions.

"We will have a look around to see what need and what we require," Wilcox continued.

"We have spoken to three or four players this week because we have to.

"If some of the players say no we need to have targets there that we are able to go to."

He added: "We need to add a few more quality players who have played in League One and I think that is important because the new players that we will bring into the club and hopefully they'll have League One experience."

While no deals with new recruits are close Wilcox remains hopeful the players will sign on for another term at Glanford Park, however, he does understand that they have to weigh up their options.

Wilcox admitted: "We are getting closer to signing some other players up again and I can understand where all the players are coming from.

"It's a difficult period of time for the players, their agents and ourselves."

He added: "We are getting closer and I am hopeful we'll be able to get a few more signatures down next week.
