Ticket News

30 May 2014

Lifelong United supporter Rob Gaffney won his 2014-15 season ticket for £5 this week.

All Iron fans who purchased a season ticket for the forthcoming season, up to and including Friday 23rd May, were entered into a competition which would see the club refund all but £5 of their season ticket price.

When Mr Gaffney received the phone call from the ticket office on Thursday morning to tell him the news he couldn't believe it.

He told “The ticket office manager rang me to tell me that I had won the competition I couldn't believe my luck.

“In fact I was shocked and excited when I took the call.

“It’s not every day that you get to watch a whole season’s football for £5.”

He added: “I have been buzzing at work since I found out and I just wanted to go home.

“I'm loving this right now and I owe a lot to the club for winning this,” he said.

That means Rob, who has not missed a home game since 1997, will watch the Iron for just 21p per game next season.

“I have been watching United all my life but I have had a season ticket for the last six seasons,” he continued.

“Last season was really enjoyable because it was our first promotion for five years.

“This club has seen some low points over the past few years – obviously the two relegations.”

The lifelong United supporter added: “Now there is a very strong and positive vibe around the club and it is an exciting place to come.”

Sometimes supporters ask too much of their team the season after they get promoted, however, Rob is remaining level-headed and he says he’ll be happy with a mid-tabled finish.

He said: “We have to be realistic next season.”

Mr Gaffney continued: “If we can make it to the play-offs that would be brilliant but I would be more than happy to finish in the middle of the table.”

Now that Mr Gaffney has some extra cash in his pocket he said he will be treating the family to a night out to celebrate.

“This is going to sound very clichéd but I will be no doubt take the family out for a nice meal," he added.

“My wife and two kids will really enjoy that."

Next week we will revealing a second winner as we run another competition where one supporter can win their season ticket for the 2014-15 season for just £10.

Everyone who has purchased a season ticket so far will be entered into the draw.

Fans will have until 4pm on Saturday 31st May to enter the competition and the winner will be announced in due course.

In addition to the competitions already mentioned we have one final draw where a few supporters can have their season ticket to delivered to their door by a number of first team players.

Again the closing date to enter this competition is Saturday 31st May at 4pm.
