WINNALL NOMINATED FOR AWARD

4 March 2014

Iron striker Sam Winnall has been nominated for the February Sky Bet League Two player of the month award.

The club will find out on Friday morning if the frontman, who scored four goals in five games during the last month as Scunthorpe remained second in League Two, has scooped the accolade.

Here is what the Football League had to say about the four nominees:

Sam Winnall (Scunthorpe United) — striker
Continued his stellar season by scoring in four straight games as Scunthorpe held onto their automatic promotion place. The variety of his goals - headers, tap-ins and fierce, angled drives from distance, made him difficult to mark.

Scott Hogan (Rochdale) — striker
An integral part of Dale’s fast-flowing football, he stood out by scoring four goals including a 16-minute hat-trick in the 3-0 win at AFC Wimbledon. The other via a curling finish after a forceful run and shot against Morecambe.

Keith Lowe (York City) — central defender
A defensive rock at centre back since coming in on loan from Cheltenham Town. He displayed his strength in the air and shrewd reading of the game as York went unbeaten in February, conceding just a single goal in four matches.

Jim McNulty (Bury) — full back
Switching between left back and central defence, the January arrival brought a stability to the Bury back four which let in just two goals in five games. Strong in the tackle, pacey and an accurate crosser, he displayed his skill in both boxes.
