TAPPING INTO KNOWLEDGE

25 March 2014

Iron boss Russ Wilcox is set to call upon the knowledge of loan export Michael Collins ahead of United’s meeting with Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night.

Having joined AFC Wimbledon on a temporary deal in February, the 27-year-old midfielder has become a regular at Kingsmeadow – featuring seven times to date.

His latest appearance came during Wimbledon’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Cheltenham on Saturday, playing 67 minutes as the Robins were consigned to a last minute defeat courtesy of Jack Midson’s late strike.

That makes Collins a prime candidate to offer an insight on how the Gloucestershire outfit are likely to approach the game, and Wilcox told The Iron Player: “I’ve just dropped him [Collins] a text now.

“I’ve had no reply yet as he’s probably still on the training ground, but I’ll get Mickey’s thoughts about their set-up. We’ve obviously got a scout there anyway doing a report, but it’s nice to get some extra information.

“It’s a different approach, and a different view. It gives me a good idea too, coming from a player. Sometimes scouts will have a different take on the game from players, so it’s a big positive for us knowing Mickey’s feedback.”
