LEAGUE TWO REVIEW: WEEK 30

10 March 2014

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Northampton saw the Iron equal the club’s 2006-2007 19-game unbeaten run – and they remain second in League Two as a result.

Better news for United was Chesterfield’s 3-1 defeat at Accrington Stanley, as the Spireites fell to a first-half hat-trick from Lee Molyneux despite the hosts having Peter Murphy sent off. Ian Evatt pulled one back for the league-leaders.

Oxford United were beaten 2-1 by Burton Albion at the Kassam Stadium. First-half goals from Dominic Knowles and Zeli Ismail gave the Brewers victory despite the Us pulling one back through Ryan Williams after the break.

Bristol Rovers picked up a 2-1 win at home to Plymouth Argyle. Chris Beardsley gave Rovers the lead before Argyle levelled through Neal Trotman, but Kaid Mohamed won it for the hosts in the second half.

Morecambe came from behind to beat Southend United 2-1 at the Globe Arena. The Shrimpers led early through Ryan Leonard, although goals from Kevin Ellison and Jack Redshaw turned the game around for the Shrimps.

A last-minute Anthony Howell goals gave Mansfield Town a 2-1 win at home to Newport County. Ryan Tafazolli fired the hosts in front before half-time although Rene Howe levelled after the break. However, Howell headed in in the dying stages.

Wycombe Wanderers came back to beat Hartlepool United 2-1 at Adams Park. Jack Barmby fired Pools in front although second-half goals from Dean Morgan and Matt McClure gave the hosts victory.

Fleetwood Town claimed a 1-0 victory at Torquay United after Jamille Matt’s second-half winner.

York City were also 1-0 winners, picking up three points at AFC Wimbledon. Michael Coulson netted the only goal in the second half.

And there were draws for Exeter (2-2 at home to Dagenham & Redbridge) and Portsmouth (0-0 at home to Cheltenham Town) in the latest round of Sky Bet League 2 fixtures.
