RARING TO START PLAYING AGAIN

16 July 2014

Iron players Terry Hawkridge and Lyle Taylor are both filled with excitement as the squad prepare for their first pre-season fixture of the summer on Wednesday evening.

United travel to Brich Park to play Northern Counties East League Division One side Bottesford Town, a fixture that saw Scunthorpe run out 6-0 winners last year.

And while Hawkridge isn’t placing particular emphasis on the result, he’s looking forward to getting back playing again and to the further pre-season matches beyond Bottesford.

He told The Iron Player: “It’s great, every pre-season game is great.

“Just getting used to playing 90 minutes again will be good.

“Any game is good for fitness at this stage so I’m just looking forward to the upcoming pre-season matches.”

New signing Taylor is similarly enthused about the game and stated that every footballer always wants to get back playing.

“It feels like a long time since I’ve played in a game,” he stated.

“I think it’s about two and a half months or something and that’s a long time.

“Ask any footballer, they love their time off but you do miss training and playing.

“You don’t miss pre-season but you do miss the games!”

The game is United’s first of their pre-season schedule and fans are reminded that tickets can be bought on the day with adults able to watch the match for £6 whilst concessions can gain entry for £3.
