FOCUSED ON MY GAME

16 July 2014

After returning from a long weekend in Champneys, winger Jennison Myrie-Williams is looking forward to United’s first fixture against Bottesford on Wednesday evening.

The winger stated the squad are in good spirits ahead of their pre-season opener, with just over three weeks until the new season kicks off with a visit to Swindon Town.

“It’s good to get to know your teammates as people,” he told The Iron Player.

“That’s the purpose of going away and we have to be focused now in making sure we are ready for the start of the season and in the best position to get the best start.”

“Personally, I am trying to make sure I’m the best I can be, but I keep my personal targets to myself. I hope to improve game-by-game and at the moment I just cannot wait for the games to start.”

The Iron begin their pre-season with a trip to Birch Park, before heading the Gainsborough Trinity at the weekend. Their pre-season matches continue for a further three weeks before the domestic season starts with three competitive games in a week.

“When the games start, there is a bit more of an objective to what we are doing,” he continued.

“I just can’t wait for them to get going. It’s early days still, but the manager will have a way he wants us to play and we will all buy into that. We will work on that in pre-season and hopefully we will be ready with that and have perfected it by the time the new season comes around.”

The new recruit from Port Vale is under no illusions though that gaining a first team place won’t be easy as he looks to break into the starting eleven when the season gets underway.

“It won’t be easy,” he said.

“The core of the squad has stayed together, but hopefully I can do enough in pre-season to start in the game at Swindon. That’s everybody’s aim to be honest, we all want to show what we can do. I just have to make sure that I make the right impression and am in the manager’s thoughts when that time comes.

“It will be a good indication as we get towards the end of pre-season who gets more minutes on the pitch and which players suit which roles better.”

He added: “I’m just focused on my game and I’m looking forward to those matches.”
