LMA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARD

27 February 2014

Home win against Portsmouth earns Scunthorpe the accolade.

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the LMA Performance of the Week Award should go to Scunthorpe United following their excellent 5-1 home win against Portsmouth in Sky Bet League Two on 22 February 2014.

Scunthorpe United manager Russ Wilcox will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Scunthorpe won their first LMA Performance of the Week Award of the season to secure victory at Glanford Park. There was also special recognition from the panel for Scunthorpe manager Wilcox who is now 17 matches unbeaten as a first time manager having taken charge of the Club in November 2013.

A David Syers hat-trick and goals from Sam Winnall and Paddy Madden maintained The Iron’s promotion push with an emphatic display against Portsmouth.

After the match, Wilcox was delighted with the result, saying: "It was really pleasing, we've just got to keep our feet on the ground.

"It was probably the most complete attacking performance without a doubt - great to see Paddy Madden on the score sheet with his first goal for the club.

"I'm a bit disappointed that Paul Hayes didn't stick one of those two away - two great chances, the first one he'd done everything right and credit to the keeper."
