United’s experienced reserve squad put eight past Hartlepool United at Billingham, including a hat-trick from Jennison Myrie-Williams.The winger rounded off his three goal haul in the last minute with the Iron’s eighth of the game. Braces from trialist Victor Zapata-Caicedo, Kyle Wootton and one from Hakeeb Adelakun hammered home a dominant performance all round.
Niall Canavan and Dave Mirfin made their returns to action as a centre-half pairing as both stepped up their recovery from long-term injuries with 45 minutes now under the belt.
Both halves of the game were the Iron’s. On the quarter hour, patient build up play – starting with Mirfin and Canavan at the back eventually saw Taron Hare sent clear down the right. His ball in was low and square, leaving Myrie-Williams a simple tap in.
Zapata-Caicedo was next to tally on 26 minutes after good work from Kyle Wootton, tackling on halfway before hitting a diagonal for his strike partner to chase and slot home. The trialist doubled his tally with United’s third three minutes before the break – nodding home a flicked header from Wootton.
The goals kept coming after the break. Wootton got in on the action on 58 minutes, tapping home a Bateson delivery from close range. Wootton then provided a third assist, for Myrie-Williams’ second of the game after breaking clear on the hour.
United’s sixth came with quarter of an hour to play. Hakeeb Adelakun drilled across the face of goal. Dawson, between the Pools sticks, got a palm to it but couldn’t keep it out of the bottom corner.
Wootton got a second, turning home from close range on 81 minutes before Myrie-Williams rounded things off with his hat-trick and the Iron’s eighth on 90 minutes – a simple pass under the keeper after Wootton played him clean through on goal.
