The Iron play Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to ten matches.
United are currently nine games without defeat thanks to a 2-1 home success against Rochdale on Boxing Day, which meant back-to-back home wins and 17th place for the Iron.Sheffield United will provide a tough test on Sunday though, with Nigel Clough’s side catching the eyes of many this season following their amazing Capital One Cup run.
The Blades are currently sixth in League One and have a cup semi-final to look forward to, although they have struggled of late.
They find themselves without a league win in their last five and head into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Port Vale.
Both managers may look to rotate their starting line-ups, with two games in such a short space of time over the festive period.
Chris Basham is suspended for the hosts following his sending off in the last game, meanwhile Iron boss Mark Robins has a strong squad at his disposal, including former Sheffield United striker Lyle Taylor.
United will be hoping to welcome attacker Luke Williams back into contention after he missed the win over Rochdale with a thigh injury.
Sunday will see the sixth consecutive season where the Iron have faced the Blades, with last season’s meeting coming in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
The Blades won on penalties following a 0-0 draw and won the last league meeting between the two sides, running out 3-0 winners.
The Iron did the double over their opponents in the 2010/11 Championship campaign, winning 3-2 at Glanford Park as well as securing a 4-0 win at Bramall Lane.
A Chris Dagnall brace, plus goals from David Mirfin and Martyn Woolford secured victory on that day and Scunthorpe fans will hope for more of the same this time around.
Out of a total of 21 matches played between the two sides, Sheffield United have a slightly better record than the Iron, winning eight compared to Scunthorpe’s six, with seven draws between the two sides.
