Paddy Madden returned to haunt Yeovil Town as he helped earn the Iron their first point of the season.

Kieffer Moore put the Glovers ahead early in the second half but Madden notched his second goal of the season in the closing stages to thwart his former club and get United up and running.

Jennison Myrie-Williams came in for Sean McAllister in midfield, while Deon Burton was replaced by Lyle Taylor in attack.

In defence, Marcus Williams came in for Eddie Nolan.

The Iron attacked towards the home fans in the first half and their first attack of the game saw Myrie-Williams drive forward and send a low ball across goal which Chris Weale got down to stop before Paddy Madden could get on the end of it.

The hosts threatened for the first time five minutes in when Samuel Foley's left-wing cross saw Ajay Leitch-Smith clip over the bar.

Bobby Olejnik was drawn into his first save of the game in the sixth minute when Simon Gillett's long diagonal ball found Leitch-Smith, who tried to touch the ball past the United shotstopper but the loanee clipped it past the post for a corner - from which nothing came - with his left heel.

On 12 minutes, Myrie-Williams received a great crossfield pass by O'Neill and cut inside before driving low and across goal and seeing his effort tipped wide by Weale.

Then, two minutes later, Madden dived to try and get on the end of Hawkridge's right-footed left-wing cross but the ball eluded the former Yeovil frontman, and Weale, going out for a goal kick.

On 22 minutes, the hosts came close again when James Hayter and Leitch-Smith combined to force a double block from Olejnik at his left hand post.

As the half wore on, it became a war of attrition with both midfields tightening up and allowing little to come through.

Scunthorpe started to get more in the opposition's final third towards the end of the half, and Madden fired a 20-yard effort just over the top of the crossbar. It proved the last attempt on goal of the opening half.

At the start of the second half, United started by attacking their own fans and Hawkridge's low right-wing cross was almost spilled by Weale under pressure by Madden but he retrieved the ball.

Just a minute later, James Hayter was played through but stabbed over the crossbar.

On 53 minutes, Addison picked a good pass to play in Hawkridge down the right whose cross found the head of Taylor, who drew a stop from Weale from 12 yards. Madden tried to score with the rebound but Weale stopped that too.

Five minutes later, Billy Kee and Gary McSheffrey came on for Taylor and Hawkridge as United made a double change.

Yeovil made a change of their own just a few minutes later when Moore replaced Hayter and he made an almost instant impact, stabbing high into the back of the net from close range.

United instantly tried to find their way back into the game but neither Madden or Kee could get on the end of the cross by McSheffrey, who had been booked earlier.

Leitch-Smith headed over the crossbar after a cross from the right as the hosts looked to add a second. Meanwhile, Hakeeb Adelakun came on for Myrie-Williams moments later.

Yeovil threatened again on 77 minutes when a left-wing corner found the feet of Simon Gillett, on the edge of the area. whose thunderous drive went well over the crossbar.

After Billy Kee was booked for simulation after tumbling under a challenge in the Yeovil area, the Iron found that elusive levelling goal on 82 minutes.

After good play from Adelakun and McSheffrey, Madden advanced into the area down the left and held off his man before driving a low shot past Chris Weale, diving low down to his right. It was the second goal of the season for the ex-Yeovil man.

Moore came close again for Yeovil on 85 minutes, being played through down the left and cutting inside before striking an effort goalwards which Olejnik was equal to.

Two minutes later, Adelakun was next to try and force the initiative - drawing a quick reactive stop from Weale after forcing himself into a shooting position down the right of the area.

There were four minutes of stoppage time indicated but the Iron dealt well with the late Glovers pressure and earned their first point of the season.

We are next in action on Tuesday night when we play host to Reading in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
