MADLEY NAMED PRESTON REFEREE

14 August 2014

Andrew Madley is the chosen official for Saturday’s fixture against Preston North End.

This is the Iron’s first home game of the new League One season and follows Tuesday’s victory against Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The West Yorkshire referee was in charge of the opening game of the new season last week, officiating the Friday evening tie between Blackburn and Cardiff, a game that finished 1-1.

Madley last took charge of an Iron game back in December last year in Scunthorpe’s 2-0 victory away at Oxford Town. He awarded both teams a penalty but Deon Burton and Deane Smalley failed to convert their spot kicks.

The claret and blue were given a penalty after Smalley was adjudged to have handled the ball from an in-swinging corner from Hawkridge, while Slocombe brought down Constable after the striker had rounded the Iron shot-stopper.

This is the fourth season in which Madley has been a Football League referee. Last campaign he gave out a total of 110 bookings and dismissed four players in 38 games.

His brother, Robert Madley, is also a Football League, Premier League and FIFA-listed referee.

Andrew Madley will be assisted by Thomas Nield and Neil Sharp and his Fourth Official will be Nick Hobbis.
