LEAGUE ONE BETTING PREVIEW

18 August 2014

Bet on all the latest League One games with www.skybet.com/scunthorpe.

Peterborough v Sheffield United

Peterborough and Sheffield United have made contrasting starts to the Sky Bet League 1 campaign, but they’re inseparable in the title odds at 8/1 apiece. Having taken maximum points so far, Posh are the 7/5 favourites in the match result market, while Nigel Clough’s pre-season title favourites are 19/10 to register a first win after opening with back-to-back defeats. A draw is 23/10 but Peterborough’s backers may prefer to lay a bet on the hosts to win by exactly one, which is 3/1, as they have done in their opening two games, while the Blades have lost by exactly one in their opening two fixtures.

Top Tip: Handicap draw -1 at 3/1

Bristol City v Leyton Orient

After taking maximum points from their opening two games in Sky Bet League 1, Bristol City are 5/4 favourites to carry on their perfect start against visitors Leyton Orient. The O’s, who have one defeat and one win to their name, are 21/10 to travel to Ashton Gate and win, while a draw is 12/5. Both teams have scored in each of the four games involving these two sides so far this season, and that’s 8/13 to come in again. Likewise, the same four games have produced over 2.5 goals, which is an alternative bet with more value at 5/6.

Top tip: Over 2.5 goals at 5/6

Chesterfield v MK Dons

Chesterfield and MK Dons have been two of the most entertaining teams to watch in Sky Bet League 1 so far, with the pair racking up 10 goals between them already. Home advantage means the Spireites are the 7/5 favourites as they look for three wins from three, while the visitors are 9/5 to come away with a first away victory of the season. A draw is 12/5 but neither side has been involved in a stalemate in the league yet, although both teams have scored in all four games involving the pair. It’s 8/13 for that trend to continue, but there’s more value in backing over 2.5 goals at 4/5.

Top tip: Over 2.5 goals at 4/5

Coventry v Barnsley

Both teams have a win and a defeat to their name from their opening two games in Sky Bet League 1, and a draw between Coventry and Barnsley can be backed at 23/10. Home advantage makes the Sky Blues the 11/8 favourites, while the Tykes can be backed for an away win at 2/1. In each of the four league games these two sides have been involved in so far this term, the game has been won by a winning margin of a single goal. The hosts can be backed to win again by a solitary strike at 3/1, while the visitors are a slightly longer price at 7/2 to do likewise.

Top tip: Odd number of goals at 10/11

Crawley v Bradford

Both teams have made unbeaten starts to the Sky Bet League 1 season, but it’s the hosts, Crawley, who earn favouritism with the bookmakers as they’ve won two from two. They’re 6/5 to win again, with the visitors given a 23/10 chance of picking up three points, while a draw is 23/10. Crawley are 11/2 to make it three 1-0 wins on the spin, while the Bantams are 7/2 to win by exactly one goal, as they did in their opening day victory over Coventry. Three of the four games involving these two sides so far have gone under 2.5 goals, which is 4/6 to come in again.

Top tip: Under 2.5 goals at 4/6

Crewe v Rochdale

Something has to give as Crewe and Rochdale both look to put their first points of the season on the board. As the hosts, Crewe are the favourites at 7/5, with the visitors rated 19/10, while both sides can get off the mark with a draw at 23/10. In three of the four games these two sides have been involved in so far, the winning scoreline has been 2-1. Crewe are 17/2 to win 2-1 while slight underdogs Rochdale are 9/1 to do likewise. Alternatively, exactly three goals to be scored in the match is a 3/1 chance, while over 2.5 is even-money (1/1).

Top tip: Exactly 3 goals at 3/1

Doncaster v Preston

Following their 4-0 win over Scunthorpe and Doncaster’s 3-1 home defeat to Port Vale, Preston travel to the Keepmoat Stadium as 23/20 favourites for a win on Tuesday night. The hosts can be backed at 12/5 for a first home win of the season, while a draw is 23/10. Three of the four games involving these two sides in the league so far have gone over 2.5 goals, which is even-money (1/1) to come in again. Doncaster’s four league goals have all been scored by different individuals, but Nathan Tyson is deemed their biggest goal threat at 7/4 to score anytime, while Joe Garner is 5/4 to add to his brace for Preston at the weekend.

Top tip: Over 2.5 goals at 1/1

Gillingham v Swindon

The Gills and the Robins have identical records with a home win and an away defeat in their opening two Sky Bet League 1 matches. Despite their 1-0 reversal at Crawley on Saturday, the visitors travel to the Priestfield Stadium as 7/5 favourites, with Peter Taylor's Gills a 19/10 chance and the draw on offer at 12/5. Danny Kedwell has scored in both games so far for the home side and is 11/2 to score the first goal. The visitor's Michael Smith also bagged a brace in the 3-1 opening day win over Scunthorpe and is 5/1 favourite to open the scoring.

Top tip: Both Kedwell and Smith to score at 11/2

Notts County v Colchester

Both sides are looking to kick-start their Sky Bet League 1 campaigns after each picking up just a point from their opening two games. County began with a promising draw at promotion fancies Preston on the opening day but were pipped on their seasonal bow at Meadow Lane by Fleetwood on Saturday. Shaun Derry's men are 11/10 favourites to make home advantage count his time around with the U's - who notched their only point against Oldham - a 5/2 chance for the win while a draw is 23/10. Jake Cassidy, scorer of County's only goal to date, is 11/2 to score the opening goal and loanee George Moncur, who has bagged two already for Colchester looks good value at 12/1 to do likewise.

Top tip: No on ‘both teams to score’ at 1/1

Oldham v Port Vale

Oldham are 5/4 favourites to gain their first win of the season in Sky Bet League 1 in a clash with Port Vale, which on the face of it promises goals. The Latics’ only point so far came in a 2-2 opening day draw at Colchester, but new recruit Jonathan Forte has already netted three times and is understandably 5/1 favourite to notch the opening goal of the clash with the Valiants. The visitors’ top goal threat comes from Tom Pope, who has scored in both of his side's game so far - an opening day draw against Walsall and the 3-1 triumph at Doncaster on Saturday. It's 100/30 that Pope scores in a Vale win or 2/1 for Forte to strike in a home win.

Top Tip: Forte and Pope both to score at 11/2

Scunthorpe v Fleetwood

Scunthorpe are marginal 6/4 favourites to bounce back after a disappointing start to life in Sky Bet League 1 against a Fleetwood side who have adapted well to the higher division with a 100 per cent start. Gary Alexander's charges are available at 7/4 for the win with the draw at Glanford Park on offer at 23/10. Visiting striker Jamie Proctor has scored in both his side’s wins to date - over Notts County and Crewe - and is 12/5 to score anytime and 7/1 to hit the opening goal. Both sides look well stocked with fire power, with Paddy Madden top of the Iron's market to score first at 5/2, or the first goal of the game at 5/1.

Top Tip: Over 2.5 goals at 1/1

Walsall v Yeovil

Both sides are still chasing their first win in the new Sky Bet League 1 campaign, with Yeovil having lost their opening two and the Saddlers with two draws to date. The visitors are 13/5 to claim their first three pointer, with Dean Smith's men favourites at 11/10 and the draw on offer at 9/4. The Glovers have failed to find the net so far and it's 5/2 for a Walsall win to nil. The home side have only managed one goal themselves though - in the opening day draw at Port Vale - so a low scoring game would appear to be on the cards.

Top Tip: Under 2.5 goals at 8/11
