IRON SIGN OLEJNIK ON LOAN

19 August 2014

Scunthorpe United have signed Austrian goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik on a one-month loan.

The 27-year-old arrives from fellow Sky Bet League One side Peterborough and he is eligible to play in the league tie with Fleetwood this evening.

He will wear the number 26 jersey and he provides cover and competition, as Sam Slocombe is still struggling with a shoulder injury sustained in the Capital One Cup win over Blackburn.

Olejnik was the Posh’s first choice goalkeeper last season and he was transfer-listed by the club at the end of last season, despite being the fans’ Player of the Year.

He made 57 appearances for Darren Ferguson’s side in 2013/14, as they finished sixth before losing in the play-off semi-final against Leyton Orient.

Olejnik joined Aston Villa’s youth team before making over 100 appearances in Scotland with Falkirk.

He then made just over 50 appearances for Torquay, leaving Plainmoor for London Road in 2012.

The 6ft 1in stopper will rival James Severn and Slocombe for a starting spot during his month-long stay.
