GAME TIME IS IMPORTANT

7 August 2014

In the final week before the Iron kick off the Sky Bet League One season at Swindon on Saturday, manager Russ Wilcox sent some of his fringe players out on loan.

Luke Waterfall has joined Macclesfield, while Andrew Boyce returned for another spell at Vanarama Conference side Grimsby.

Miles Addison and Miguel Llera were added to the squad last week and the manager says the loan moves were important for the defensive duo, to get minutes under their belts.

“I think game time on the pitch was the key to their moves,” Wilcox explained to The Iron Player.

“We have a big squad and we’ve brought in League One experience, which I felt we needed.

“The lads have got to go out and prove to me they’re capable of making the step up to League One.

“They’re great lads, great pros, always looking to improve themselves, it’s just the fact there isn’t League One experience between them and that’s why I brought in Miles and Miguel.”

The manager also confirmed he is still uncertain of out-of-contract midfielder Luke Hornsey’s future at the club, insisting it still remains in the balance.

He added: “I need to sit down with Luke towards the end of this week. Nothing has been sorted yet.

“We need to make a decision of where we will go next.

“He’s trained really well and couldn’t have done any more. He’s in great shape, he won the yo-yo test on the first day back so he’s done everything right, we just need to make the right decision.”
