Speaking following his nomination for Manager of the Month for March, manager Russ Wilcox once again heaped praise onto his players.

It is the third time that the United manager has been among the four managers nominated for the accolade in League Two – out of the four full months he has been in charge of the club.

“It’s a club award,” he told The Iron Player.

“It’s down to the players and the staff for doing so well over the month of March. We were unbeaten again – continuing that from the end of November.

“It’s been an amazing achievement from the group of players and everyone associated with the football club.”

He added: “It’s great to get Scunthorpe back on the map after a few tough years."

Wilcox joins Nigel Worthington of York City, Wayne Burnett of Dagenham & Redbridge and Keith Hill of Rochdale as nominees, with the winner of the award announced on Friday, live on Sky Sports News.

Wilcox added: “We’ve got embrace that and enjoy that and I’m sure Nigel Worthington is going to win that as they won six on the bounce and drew one with six cleans sheets – but again it’s nice to be in that pack of four.”

Speaking why the United manager was nominated, the Football League said: “Wilcox claimed a place in the record books for making the longest unbeaten league match start to a managerial career - 24 games - in The Football League's history. Three wins and four draws kept Scunthorpe United on course for automatic promotion.”
