MCALLISTER ON THE WAY BACK

25 April 2014

United boss Russ Wilcox has heralded the character of Sean McAllister as he completed a return to full training ahead of Saturday’s visit to Exeter City.

The 26-year-old has been out of action since the end of March, after suffering a collarbone injury in the 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at Glanford Park.

Since then the popular midfielder has been working hard to regain fitness, and Wilcox told The Iron Player: “He’s joined in with the group [in training], but Saturday may come a little bit too soon.

“It tells you everything about his mentality and approach. Sean took part in the full session, and had no reaction [to his injury]. Gary McSheffrey was out there too, doing some work with Darren the fitness coach.”

McAllister scooped three Scunthorpe United Official Supporters Club individual awards last week in recognition of his selfless endeavours this season, and Wilcox added: “He’s played a huge role, as has everybody else.

“He’s probably going to be a bit sore for the next four or five weeks. He’s pushing himself forward, so we’ll see where we are with him.”
