LEAGUE TWO REVIEW: GOOD FRIDAY

20 April 2014

Good Friday’s 1-1 draw at Morecambe was still enough to keep the Iron top of the League Two table.

Rochdale’s 3-0 defeat at home to Southend United saw them slip down to third. Goals from Barry Corr, Jacob Murphy and Michael Timlin gave Phil Brown’s side the win at Spotland.

Bury beat Plymouth Argyle 4-0 at the JD Stadium. Andrew Tutte fired the Shakers in front early on before two for Daniello Nardiello gave them a three-goal advantage. Danny Rose then added a fourth late on.

Fleetwood Town came from behind to beat Cheltenham 2-1 at the Abbey Business Stadium. Jamie Cureton fired the Robins in front, but second-half goals from Antoni Sarcevic and Josh Morris turned the game around for the Cod Army.

A Michael Coulson penalty gave York City a 1-0 win at Oxford United, while Dagenham and Redbridge picked up a 1-0 victory at Torquay United thanks to Medy Elito’s spot-kick.

In the Saturday games, Burton Albion beat Hartlepool United 3-0 at the Pirelli Stadium with goals from Billy Kee, Jimmy Phillips and Lee Bell.

Portsmouth also won 3-2 against Bristol Rovers at Fratton Park on the same day. Adam Webster put Pompey in front before Matt Harrold equalised for Rovers. Danny Hollands had the home side back ahead but Harrold again levelled. However, Wes Fogden struck Portsmouth’s winner late on.

And there were draws for Accrington Stanley (1-1 at home to Mansfield Town), AFC Wimbledon (2-2 at home to Newport County), Chesterfield (1-1 at home to Exeter City) and Wycombe (1-1 at home to Northampton) in the latest round of Sky Bet League 2 fixtures.
