IRON HEAD TO TORQUAY AS FAVOURITES

4 April 2014

The Iron will go into the weekend match at Torquay United as favourites, according to the league’s official betting partner, SkyBet.

Russ Wilcox’s men travel to the south-west looking to extend the record-breaking run under the Iron boss and they are valued at 21/20 to leave Plainmoor with three points.

Meanwhile, the Gulls are the league’s bottom club and after sacking Alan Knill in January, Cleethorpes-born Chris Hargreaves was installed to steer the club away from relegation from the Football League. SkyBet rate them at 11/4 underdogs for a win- something they have only done twice in their last ten matches.

A draw would see Torquay go within six points of safety, providing results go their way, and if Rochdale and Chesterfield lose and the Iron draw, the Claret and Blue will be just one point from Keith Hill’s Rochdale, currently at the league’s summit.

There are as many as 53 different betting options for the Iron’s 41st game of the season, available on www.SkyBet.com/Scunthorpe, including Scunthorpe United 18/1 to win 3-1 and 7/1 to win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2.

If you register from the link above, the Iron profit from it- for every sign-up, the club gets £10 from SkyBet.

Scunthorpe are 9/4 to leave the south-western coast with a clean sheet and a win but, alternatively, you can put money on both teams to score and the Iron to win at 7/2.

The game’s goal tally totalling over 2.5 goals is 5/4 and the Iron to win with a -1 handicap is 3/1.

The scoring odds are similar to past weeks, with our top scorer Sam Winnall favourite to score anytime or first, rated at 5/4 and 9/2 respectively.

January signing Paddy Madden is 11/2 to score first and 6/4 anytime, whilst Paul Hayes is 11/2 to open or close the scoring and our goalscoring midfielder Dave Syers is 5/2 to score anytime in 90 minutes.

You can bet at odds of 11/2 for both Winnall and Madden to get on the scoresheet or if you opted for Niall Canavan to score anytime, you’d have 6/1 odds and 15/2 odds for the defender to score and the Iron to win.

The Gulls’ leading scorer is Jordan Chapell and he is seventh favourite to score anytime for the home team, at 7/2, 10/1 for the first goal. Karl Hawley is favourite at 2/1 anytime and you can have a Chapell-Winnall double at 13/2.

You can bet on the goal times, goal counts, half-time result and more, including in-play betting once the Iron kick-off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

In terms of outright betting, the Iron are second favourites to win League Two at 7/4, behind leaders Rochdale, who are evens. Chesterfield are 9/2 and Fleetwood are 80/1 outsiders.

In-form York City have boosted their play-off hopes and they are 15/2 to go up via that route and 11/10 for a top seven finish.

In relegation betting, Torquay are favourites for the drop at 1/33, Northampton are 8/13, and Wycombe are 3/1.

21-goal Winnall is the league’s leading scorer and he leads the betting for the golden boot, at 1/16, with Reuben Reid and Scott Hogan 14/1.
