HEYWOOD HANDED MORECAMBE TRIP

17 April 2014

Northwich’s Mark Heywood will be the man in-charge of our Good Friday trip to Morecambe, it has been announced.

Fans shouldn’t confuse Cheshire’s Mark Heywood, with West Yorkshire’s Mark Haywood, who has also officiated the Iron this campaign.

It will be his first visit to the Globe Arena this season, with the previous visit coming last season as Preston North End knocked the Shrimpers out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with a 4-2 win.

The SkyBet League Two match will be the Iron’s 43rd league game of these season, Heywood’s 29th in all competitions.

He has handed out 92 yellow cards and just four reds in that time, with the most recent dismissal coming last Saturday as Stevenage lost 3-2 at home to Colchester. Filipe Morais was sent for an early shower by Heywood for dissent worthy of a straight red.

He is yet to officiate a Morecambe match this campaign and it will be his second involving the Iron, with the first coming south from Globe Arena, at nearby Fleetwood as United won 1-0. A goal from Sam Winnall proved to be the difference and Cliff Byrne and David Mirfin received bookings.

Heywood’s fixtures this season have been mostly in League One and Two, with a few coming in the Championship, JP Trophy, FA Cup and Capital One Cup.

Last season, the Cheshire man officiated a total of 25 games (none including the Iron and Morecambe twice) and distributed 78 yellows and four reds.

The Good Friday match will be see Heywood assisted by Matthew Bristow and Gary Hilton, with Robert Jones as his fourth official on the touchline.
