Under-18s preview: Notts County (H)

20 November 2020

Attention turns back to the Youth Alliance League on Saturday, as the Iron's Under-18s host Notts County (11am kick-off).

Please note, in line with the current EFL COVID-19 guidelines, no spectators are permitted at these games.

SCENE-SETTER

The Iron return to league action for the first time in four weeks and continue with their matches with their 100% record still in tact with three wins from three.

The side have faired less favourably in the cup competitions though, and have been eliminated from the Youth Alliance Cup and the FA Youth Cup, losing all three of those games, including a heavy defeat last weekend at Oldham Athletic, who progressed through the group stages after winning both of their games.

Scunthorpe's last encounter in the Youth Alliance League was a 3-2 home win over Mansfield Town following goals from Patrick Virgo, Dan Gallimore and Joey Dawson.

Notts County come into the game in third place with one more point that the Iron, having played three more games. United are fourth with maximum points, while Grimsby are the only other unbeaten side with four points from their two games.

The Magpies' last game in the league was a 4-3 away win at Rotherham United.

TEAM NEWS

Over half the squad was wiped out of action due to COVID-19 protocols last weekend.

One second year scholar was absent having tested positive with the virus. As a result, a further five players were self-isolating, including four further second-year scholars.

The Iron's Under-18s have also been forced have Under-15s and Under-16s in the group to supplement a smaller squad of scholars this season. The team had been back up to their full compliment of players up until the recent outbreak.
