Under-18s preview: Grimsby Town (A)

18 September 2020

The Iron's Under-18s take on Grimsby Town away from home in the Youth Alliance League this Saturday (11am kick-off).

Please note, in line with the current EFL COVID-19 guidelines, no spectators are permitted at these games.

SCENE-SETTER

Both teams come into the game on the back of 1-0 wins on the opening day of the season last weekend. The Iron won 1-0 at home to Doncaster Rovers, who won the league in 2019-20, while the Mariners beat Lincoln City away from home last time out.

Both teams are joint third going into the game, with Mansfield Town also registering a 1-0 win last weekend. Notts County top the division after one round of fixtures following their superior goal difference

TEAM NEWS

The Iron's Under-18s have a smaller squad this season and welcomed Under-15s player Harvey Cribb and Under-16s goalkeeper Owen Foster into the squad last weekend to name four substitutes.

Jake Balme was in between the sticks last weekend, keeping a clean sheet, in the absence of Ben Crosher who is expected to sit out for around 10 days through injury.

The other absentee is first-year Ben Franklin who is expected to be out for six-to-eight weeks with an ankle ligament injury.

LAST TIME OUT

IRON: Balme, Baker, Dawson, Gallimore, Kemp, Lewis, Virgo, Wilkinson, Wilson (Moore-Billlam, 82), Young, Moore.

IRON UNUSED SUBS: Foster, Lobley, Cribb.
